The past few weeks have reminded me that life is never all good—or all bad.
We lost our sweet dog, Max. He’d been sick for a while, and I poured so much energy into helping him and trying to extend his life. In the end, it was his time. Those days were heavy. I gave myself permission to do the bare minimum outside of client sessions and family time. No guilt, no beating myself up. My energy needed to be focused where it mattered most.
And yet, at the very same time, life handed me moments of deep joy. Tara (my step-daughter) and I slipped away for a night in Spokane, which felt healing after weeks of sadness. I also celebrated a professional milestone I’d been working toward for a long time.
Grief and gratitude. Rest and growth. Loss and accomplishment. It’s all been here.
Why This Matters
In healthcare, you know how quickly life can turn. A shift that starts with laughter can end in heartbreak. A day that feels endless can also bring small moments of connection or relief.
This is the 50/50 of life — the truth that life will always hold both joy and sorrow, success and struggle. Not because anything has gone wrong, but because that’s the human experience.
Some seasons might feel more like 20/80 or 70/30, but there’s always a mix. When we resist the hard, we make it heavier. When we cling too tightly to the good, we create fear of losing it. But when we can hold both, we make room for peace — even in the messiness of real life.
What This Means for You
If you’ve been feeling the push and pull of life’s ups and downs, you’re not failing. You’re not broken. You’re human. And learning to navigate that balance — without losing yourself in the extremes — is one of the most important skills you can build.
Because while life may always be 50/50, the way you move through it doesn’t have to feel so overwhelming. Coaching gives you tools to do exactly that — with more clarity and less stress.
