One Simple Hack to Decrease Your Phone Time

Discomfort vs. your phone: your phone will win every time.

Are you someone who often and randomly finds your phone in your hand?

Scrolling is often a form of avoidance.

But if you want to create and live a life you love, just consider–

Is this how you WANT to spend your time?

If not, first, look at what you might be avoiding.

You can do this by asking yourself:

What would I be doing if I wasn’t on my phone right now?

And what emotion would I be feeling?

For example:

Maybe no one invited you to hang out, and you feel lonely.

Maybe you have work to do but don’t know what to do next & feel stupid.

Maybe you haven’t called your mom in a while, so you feel bad.

Figuring out the thought you are thinking, the thought that’s just BEFORE you pick up your phone to scroll, the one that has you scrolling instead of doing something uncomfortable, empowers you to make conscious & intentional decisions.

Is this how you want to live your life?

If not, break down that thought and decide to take action anyway.

You can invite people to hang out.

At work, give your best guess as to what to do next & do it, or determine how you can figure it out.

As soon as you think to call your mom, call her– right now!

Not all mindless scrolling is bad, but I want you to be aware of how you spend your time and make sure it’s aligned with what is truly most important to you.

You only have so much time here on this earth.

How do you WANT to spend it?

This is how you create & live a life you love.

If you want support to spend less time on your phone or screens, I can help.

There are a few ways you can work with me, but the first step is to book a

caretaking

Are you someone who is a caretaker for a loved one? If so, this one is for you.

You well know this can be a very challenging situation. There are so many emotions involved:

Fear of the unknown, pending loss, emotional & financial strain.

Overwhelmed by the responsibilities involved, and then additional guilt for feeling overwhelmed.

Resentment that you’re in this situation in the first place.

You’re likely sad about the pain & suffering your loved one is enduring.

Angry at the unfairness of it all,

Powerless to do much about it,

Anxious about your future,

And lonely because as much as they try, no one else understands or ‘gets it.’

And again, there’s a constant undercurrent of resentment- that these were the cards you were dealt, this is your lot in life.

No wonder you withdraw from others, avoid discussing what’s happening & are exhausted, especially if you think you need to be strong for everyone else.

Beyond stressed, heading nose-first into burnout, you’re just waiting to snap & really lose it any second now.

But where you choose to focus will help you feel better.

If you want to feel empowered, look to see what you can control, what choices you have agency over, even if it’s your own health & well-being.

If you want to feel gratitude, look for the little things to be grateful for, spend some time in that gratitude, and soak it in (similar to how a sponge absorbs water).

If you want to feel courage, focus on the brave things you’re doing right now.

If you want to feel joy, focus on the present moment & find joy in little things- the sun’s rays shining through the window or the sound of Robin’s chirping.

These better-feeling emotions don’t change the circumstances of your loved one’s illness, but they will help you to feel better and more empowered while you navigate these challenges.

If you want to learn how to feel better, even while facing difficult life circumstances, I can help you– book a consultation to discuss how.

self-trust

Here’s a little story for you about “Jane.” Of course, all names have been changed to protect the innocent. 😉

At 42, Jane found herself navigating the complexities of being a mother. The weight of concerns about her daughter’s future and the demands of her Monday-to-Friday 9-5 management job often left her feeling overwhelmed. Jane grappled with persistent negative self-talk, second-guessing her decisions, and seeking validation from others.

In her management role, Jane often doubted her capabilities. She hesitated to take on new responsibilities, fearing failure and questioning her competency. Personal and professional boundaries blurred, as she believed success required constant sacrifices.

The strains extended to her relationships, and her marriage occasionally took a backseat to the demands of her job. Financial aspirations fueled her drive, but doubts lingered about her ability to climb the corporate ladder. Jane’s love for reading and outdoor activities felt like distant pastimes, overshadowed by the constant need for external validation.

Vacations were rare, and even during these breaks, Jane found it challenging to detach herself from work-related worries, eroding the joy she could have experienced.

Determined to make a change, Jane embarked on a journey to cultivate self-trust. She actively worked on reducing negative self-talk and embracing her capabilities in practical ways.

In her parenting role, Jane’s self-trust translated into confident decision-making for her daughter’s future. Instead of worrying incessantly, she actively guided her daughter with assurance, trusting that her advice was valuable. Jane’s confidence became a source of inspiration, fostering resilience in her daughter.

In her management job, Jane’s self-trust is exemplified by her ability to take on new challenges. She stepped into leadership roles, confidently making decisions and advocating for her ideas. Her increased self-assurance impacted her professional growth and contributed to a healthier work-life balance.

Her relationships flourished as Jane prioritized herself, becoming a more fulfilled partner and mother. Financially, she observed tangible progress in her career, climbing the corporate ladder confidently.

Leisure activities became true sources of joy. Jane’s days outdoors became deliberate acts of self-care. Traveling, once riddled with worries, transformed into cherished adventures as she learned to trust that she had earned those moments of relaxation.

Jane’s life after learning self-trust is a pragmatic tale of empowerment, where tangible actions and confident choices contribute to her overall well-being. The story emphasizes the importance of trusting oneself in real, everyday scenarios, leading to positive changes in various aspects of life.

Building self-trust can tremendously impact various aspects of our lives, including our relationships, careers, and overall well-being. By cultivating self-trust, we can make confident decisions, take on new challenges, and prioritize our needs, leading to a more fulfilling and empowered life.

If you want to learn more about How to Build Self-trust, I’m offering a free monthly masterclass on 1/31/24 at 11 AM MT via Zoom. In this class, you’ll learn practical tips and strategies for cultivating self-trust and making confident choices in your everyday life.

rock star

When I went to my husband’s work Christmas party in December,

I felt like a rock star & I can’t even tell you how fabulous that was.

I didn’t even really realize how much less stress & anxiety I was feeling until I was in the shower, getting ready.

(Isn’t all of our best thinking done in the shower?)

I compared my feelings for this Christmas party to one I attended just a year ago.

I was a complete hot mess.

I felt inadequate, insecure, anxious, exposed, & had dread.

I had all the negative self-talk,

100% of which was untrue,

but I 100% believed it.

I didn’t have anything “good” to wear, my hair was a mess, & I felt fat.

I tried to force myself to feel better while feeling like a complete sh*t-show on the inside.

It didn’t work & instead, I had a meltdown.

After being fully dressed & 80% ready to go, I took off all my clothes to regroup & start over.

I even took another shower– sweaty & wanting to wash the tear stains from my face.

I was more than an hour late to that party.

This year, I Marco Polo’d with some girlfriends to get their input on my outfit.

I felt like I looked amazing.

I got showered, dressed, & ready with zero drama.

I felt comfortable and confident.

I openly approached & initiated conversations with people.

I felt so good & grateful; words are inadequate to describe it accurately,

but I can feel it in my heart– like my heart aches with goodness & gratitude

for myself,

for my work on me,

for my coaches,

& for the coaching I do with my clients, too.

So, what changed?

I got coached and learned

• how to build self-trust

• how to manage my mind

• how to manage my negative emotions & create better feelings

• how to have fun & so much less anxiety

And you can, too.

If you want to feel like a rock star,

If you want to be able to get ready for an event without a hot mess meltdown,

If you want friends who will give you Marco Polo outfit advice,

I can help you.

grace

Did you know you could decide to stop talking negatively to yourself?

What would it be like to have grace for yourself instead of that constant and incessant negative chatter?

When you think negative thoughts, you create negative feelings & then beat yourself up.

Instead, how would you rather feel?

Even if you could get to a place of having some grace for yourself, it’s better than being so harsh.

What would you have to think to create a feeling of GRACE?

“I did the best I could.”
“That was an expensive lesson; let’s try not to do that again.”
“Even though I’m scared & I don’t know how it’s going to work out, I know I’m doing the right thing.”

Sometimes, I have to get really strict with my brain to shut down the negative chatter.

It keeps trying to go back there.

And I have to keep saying, “No, thank you.”

When I think about the woman I want to become, my future self doesn’t waste time or brain space beating herself up. She has better things to do with time & smarts.

Right? Think about that for a second.
Beating yourself has zero benefit; it puts you at a disadvantage, so why would you want to spend time there?

Just don’t.
If you made a mistake, learn from it.
Find another thought that creates a feeling of grace.
And move on.

If this resonates with you & you’d like to learn how not to beat yourself up, I can help you. Book a complimentary, no-obligation consultation here.

change your life

Changing your entire life is possible, and you can trust that I know because I’ve done it.

I had a good job but felt miserable.
I had a big, beautiful house but wanted a different one.
I had a great relationship but was still not happy.

And I turned it all around with one simple thing:

I paid attention to & questioned my thoughts.

Instead of letting my mind run amok in all the miserableness I was making up in my head (my life was not really that bad at all)–

~ I saw how changing my life could be possible.
~ I decided where to start (picking only one thing).
~ I created a plan.
~ I implemented that plan, taking action consistently.
~ I evaluated my actions, corrected the course & kept going.

All while being willing to be uncomfortable and mitigating my negative emotions when they came up.

These are literally the exact steps to change your life.

Think about any change you implemented in your own life, and you will see this process.
Getting a job:
You decided you wanted a job; you decided where to start.
You created a plan: apply for the job.
You implemented the plan: you applied for the job.
You were willing to be uncomfortable in the interview for the job (does anyone LOVE a job interview?).
You mitigated your negative emotions: you didn’t go running & screaming out of the room instead of sitting for the interview.
Then, either you got that job, or you didn’t. If you didn’t, you likely considered what you could do differently for the next job you applied for.

Now, apply this process to any change you would like to make in your life.
Losing weight:
Decide: are you watching what you eat, exercising more, or both?
Create a plan: what are you eating/ not eating; when & what are you doing for exercise?
Implement the plan: eat/ don’t eat the foods you planned. Exercise what & when you said you would.
Be willing to be uncomfortable: be willing not to eat the cookies when you want to. Be willing to work out when you don’t want to.
Mitigate your negative emotions: keep going even when it feels like it’s not working.
Evaluate what’s working, what isn’t & what you can do differently.
Be willing to be uncomfortable: be willing not to eat the cookies when you want to. Be willing to work out when you don’t want to.
Mitigate your negative emotions: keep going even when it feels like it’s not working.

If you’d like to learn more about how to apply these steps to YOUR life to create change, join me on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at 11 AM MT for my next free monthly masterclass. Registration is required & you can do so by clicking here. I hope to see you there!

possible

Do you often find yourself feeling discouraged when it comes to achieving your dreams?

Do you have a hard time believing that it’s possible to live the life you’ve always wanted?

If so, you’re not alone, but there is a solution.

It all starts with the belief that it’s possible.

Without this belief, you won’t be inspired to take action to create your dream life.

You may not even bother trying, or you may start and then stop and give up.

But what if you chose differently?

What if you decided to believe in yourself and your dreams?

This is the year; this is the time to learn how to create your dream life.

Yes, stepping outside of your comfort zone and taking risks can be scary, but it’s worth it.

You deserve to live a life you love, and the first step is believing it’s possible.

Once you have that belief, you can start taking action towards your goals.

Remember, you don’t have to do it alone.

Countless people have achieved their dreams against all odds.

You can see them as an example and draw inspiration from their stories.

So, what are you waiting for?

Choose differently and start taking action towards creating your dream life today.

You can do it, and you deserve it.

P.S. If you aren’t on my email list, what are you waiting for?! You will get weekly insider info- just today, I shared my webinar schedule for the entire year. Click here to sign up, and since you’re already here, January’s webinar is How to Create Change. Click here to register for this event.

you can do it

What would it be like to trust yourself to create the results you want in life?

Take a minute to really imagine what is possible for you.

If you want to

Lose weight?

Be physically fit?

Make more money?

Start a new business?

Improve a relationship?

What would it take for you to know you can create these results?

It will take time.

Yes, it will be hard sometimes.

And it will for sure be uncomfortable,

But what if you know you can do it?

Because you can.

You can absolutely do anything you set your mind to.

You can trust yourself.

You are resourceful.

You can figure it out.

You can do the work.

Just imagine what it will be like when you’re on the other side.

You will look back and think, “I did that; I created this.”

You might think these results are only possible for other people.

That there is some ‘X-factor’ you’re missing,

That they were ‘born that way,’ but you weren’t.

Or that there’s something wrong with you– somehow, they seem to be able to pull it off, but you can’t.

This is simply not true.

Here’s how to do it:

Decide what you want.

Believe that it’s possible.

Determine how (what to do & what not to do).

Commit to taking action consistently.

Mitigate negative thoughts and feelings when they come up.

Celebrate and evaluate.

Trust yourself and the process.

Think back to another time you created a result in your life.

How did you get there?

Identify how you’ve already worked this process for each step listed above.

Borrow from that experience and apply this same process to the result you want to create now.

For example, I wanted to become a nurse.

I decided that’s what I wanted to do.

I believed that if I got a college degree and passed the NCLEX, I would become a registered nurse.

The “how” for becoming a nurse is pretty well prescribed: I went to school, studied, and learned things. I took exams, got passing grades, worked my way to my degree, took & passed the NCLEX exam, and became a nurse.

I also didn’t give up & kept going through school, even when it was hard & I wasn’t sure if I could do it.

I celebrated when I passed classes. I evaluated what I was doing, learning how to study better.

I trusted that if I kept going, I would make it, and I trusted that this was the process for me to become a nurse.

Other results have less prescribed routes, for example, weight loss.

Let’s say you want to lose 15 pounds.

Believe that it’s possible– you can lose 15 pounds.

Determine how: what you will and will not do. Perhaps you will quit sugar, commit to eating better (determine what ‘better’ means for you, i.e., no processed food), or follow a specific diet (paleo or the Mediterranean diet). Be specific about what actions you will and will not take.

Commit to taking that action– follow that plan, but know that you’re human and you will make mistakes. Don’t beat yourself up, don’t give up– just get right back on track.

Deal with your negative emotions when they arise– be willing to feel uncomfortable, deprived, bored, etc., and keep going.

Celebrate the progress you’re making– find evidence that the process is working, even if the numbers on the scale haven’t moved yet.

Evaluate your actions– learn what you might like to do differently.

Trust yourself. Trust the process; keep going until you achieve your desired result.

P.S. If you’re interested in learning how to create Results Galore in 2024, join me for this free workshop on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at 2 PM MT (4 PM ET/ 1 PM PT) via Zoom. Registration is required, and you can do so here.

the most wonderful time

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… but is it really?

This is also the most stressful time of the year, especially if you have littles at home.

There are teacher gifts, Christmas programs, Spirit Week, treats, Christmas Strolls, Santa visits & photos, the tree, stockings, decorating, Elf on the Shelf, etc.

Then, there is gift budgeting, deciding, buying, wrapping, and hiding for the family, the neighbors, the coworkers, the post, UPS, and garbage people.

Family visits, food, parties, people… so many people…

If you feel exhausted, know you are not alone.

When you feel overwhelmed,

  1. Take a deep breath
  2. Prioritize what is most important.
  3. What is the bare minimum required to get that done?
  4. Do that.

This will help you keep things in perspective, show up to life how you want to, and help you better enjoy the holidays.

P.S. If you’d like to create Results Galore in 2024. Join me for this free monthly workshop. Bring paper & a pen so you can work along with me. We’ll investigate what worked and what didn’t work last year so we can tie up 2023 in a bow. You’ll clearly see what to bring with you & what to leave behind. We’ll explore the results you want to create in 2024. We’ll break down the precise steps to achieve those results. And you’ll leave with a roadmap ready for implementation.

Registration is required; you can do so by clicking here.

everything, everywhere, all at once

With the new year soon upon us, how many of you are thinking:

I want to lose weight, get in better shape, drink more water, meditate consistently, save more money, and take more vacations.

Then, by February, you feel like such a failure that you give up on everything.

It’s no wonder…

You’re trying to do everything, everywhere, all at once,

then you get overwhelmed and bail on all of it.

By March 1, three months later, you’re right back to where you were on January 1.

Instead, pick ONE thing to focus on first.

When you nail that process, and your new habit becomes second nature,

Then and only then, add another.

I suggest you start with either the easiest or the most fun.

Decide where to start.

Create a plan.

Implement your plan.

Celebrate that you took action.

Evaluate the action you took.

Correct course.

Take more action. (Or, as I like to say, wash, rinse, repeat.)

Do not forget to celebrate the action you’ve taken.

Acknowledge that it’s work to do something new & different.

Good for you for getting out there & doing it.

Personally, while I love the new year– it’s a great opportunity for a fresh start– I like to create better habits & routines all year long.

For years, I’ve been claiming “New Year’s Resolutions” all year long regarding anything I want to improve– why wait until January? I still start with only one thing.

I never quite understood the: in December, the rails come off, but in January, we’ll be on our best behavior.

It’s simply not sustainable and will not yield the results you want in 2024.

So, if you’d like to learn how to create a sustainable practice

If you’d like to make a roadmap for 2024 that includes wiggle room for pivots, surprises, and changes,

If you’d like to create an ‘adventure’ plan rather than a rigid, “must-be-followed” plan for 2024,

Join me for RESULTS GALORE IN 2024
